Why would the Bible say, "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling"? That phrase sounds terrifying, and it seems to clash with the love and security we have in Christ. But in Philippians 2:12-13 we discover two golden truths that are meant to be held together: we work out our salvation with fear and trembling AND God works in us to will and to work for his good pleasure. These two truths must coexist at the same time to ensure our growth and confidence in Christ.
